Project #22 - Fiji

We headed back to Fiji for our 22nd Clean Water Project - Our 3rd trip to the islands.

This time, PARGO ambassadors Alan Cleland Jr and Rolando Stanley-Ozuna joined us to help bring much-needed clean water access to 3 separate villages in Fiji's highlands, on the main island.

Together, we supplied 200 filtration systems, giving over 1500 people access to clean drinking water for the very first time!

Typhoid, giardia, heavy sediment, and other waterborne illnesses are prevalent throughout these areas, causing stomach issues, diarrhoea, skin rashes, persistent coughs, and poor overall health. Because the villages sit in such remote parts of the highlands, tackling the effects of dirty water is especially difficult.

Working alongside our on-the-ground partners, Give Clean Water, we travelled to each village and taught locals why clean water matters, including the crucial difference between "clear" water and truly "clean" water. We showed them how Sawyer 0.1 micron gravity-fed filtration systems could help them live healthier, happier lives.

In each village, we assembled the filters on-site and demonstrated just how effective they are - turning brown, dirty water into crystal-clear drinking water in an instant.

Once everyone saw how the filters worked, we walked them through backwashing, hands-on. With proper care and maintenance, these filters can last well over a decade.

The communities were so grateful for the new filters that we were invited to stay, they told us we could stay forever! We shared some wonderful conversations, and their gratitude for the chance at a healthier life was genuine and heartfelt.

In Fiji, drinking Kava is a tradition reserved for milestone occasions, and now these villages are using their new filters to clean the water before mixing it. We were offered Kava ourselves, and happily shared several rounds from the bowl in celebration of clean water, together.
